OUR STAFF
Where do we start??. Alan is never happier than being in the yard, hands on, all day every day or going racing all around the country or any country!!!,(likes to go back to Ireland for the hospitality and drags a horse with him for an excuse!!!!).
He rides out occasionally but mostly watches from the ground as this is the best way to see horses working.
He still drives the box everywhere.
Alan can always be seen with mobile phone attached to his ear, but like a true Irishman is very easy going and likes a Magners or two.
LIBBY BRODIE (HEAD GIRL)
Libby joined us in 2004 and has a wealth experience having been involved in racing for over ten years. She became Head Girl in 2005 and is a huge asset to Alan in running the yard.
Her favourite horse is FRITH and she looks after him like a baby. He rewarded her with a great win at Cattrick in Dec 2008.
She is a great talker, who doesn't stop!!, and is very knowledgeable about racing and life in general and a good party organiser.
STEVE FREEMAN
Steve who came from the Northern Racing college after a two brief spells in Middleham joined us in Summer 2002.
Steve still has eyes for the fillies (both four and now only one two legged, or so he tells me) and is mad about Bolton Wanderers. He has a passion for Stella Artois and Ice Cream of which he has gained the nickname "Ice Cream Freeman".
He is a very laid back character and really loves his work and horses and is a good team member.
BECKY COWIE
Becky arrived from the Shetland Isles (via the Northern Racing College) in 2002. Her favourite horse is Shambery.
She is great at schooling and getting young horses jumping and has had a few rides in amateur races.
She also lives on the yard and is a different character to the quiet fresh faced Shetlander who arrived here in 2002. She has certainly come out her shell since arriving.
CAROLINE BARCLAY
Caroline is the daughter of trainer Jim Barclay. She started in Summer 2004 having previously worked alongside her father for many years and is well known face on the Northern circuit.
She is a really lively character and enjoys a good party. On her days off she plays a lot of golf and she is a very good player, she gave Des a real hammering when they played and he won't play again. Her favourite horse is English City who has won 5 times.
VICKY STEPHEN
Vicky joined us on a full time basis after working during the past few summers. She is learning all the time and is becoming a valuable part of the team. She has a great ability to sit on some of the more lively horses when bucking - Hamish is a great Monday morning ride that she really enjoys. Her favourite horse is Wise Choice who is another winner for the yard.
ALEXANDER VOY - Conditional Jockey
Alexander comes from Haddington and he joined us at the beginning of December 2008. He has made a huge difference since joining the yard and to date has banged in 5 winners for us. As a Conditional Jockey attached to our yard he will now ride all the horses for the yard.
He has joined Richard Hale (the leading jockeys' agent in the north) and should now pick up more outside rides.
AMY BERRY
Amy started here at the beginning of December and like Alexander was working with George Foster before that. She has worked for several different trainers and so has a good variety of experience, and she seems to have settled in well at Duncrievie.
